A new room and a
fresh start for Kganya!
Recently, ASK had the honor of helping a very special young woman start her new life with a new room.
Fourteen year old Kganya was diagnosed with leukemia in January 29, 2010. After multiple rounds of chemotherapy, Kganya received a bone marrow transplant from her younger sister, Sulu. She remained in the hospital for 30 days while she recovered.
Our hospital staff alerted us of the conditions necessary for Kganya to return home to complete her recovery and isolation period of 100 days post transplant.
Although Kganya's home was in good shape, we found that she wanted to return to the familiarity of her own room which was a converted attic space in need to some major renovation including a new heat and air conditioning system, flooring,electrical, storage,painting and furnishings. In anticipation of her return home in a week, we turned to partners in our community to perform this "extreme makeover" in less than 5 days! The results were nothing less than spectacular. Kganya cried and said " Is this my old room? It looks like something out of a magazine."

Great Escape: Monte Carlo
For over twenty-five years the highly successful ASK Rainbow Gala raised awareness and friendships that have been the lifeblood of our organization.
This year the Board of Directors of ASK hopes you will join us as we conjure up the sights, sounds and drama of vintage Monaco as we stage the "Great Escape:Monte Carlo" on October 23, 2010 at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts in the new Cochrane Atrium.
The night will feature both live and silent auctions, combined with our own Casino Royale and live musical entertainment. We hope that you will mark your calendar now and help play a vital supporting role.
